The Boracay Getaway
// October 1st, 2008 // Travel
My friends, and probably the handful of readers who may be following this blog, know that I love traveling. So far, my wanderlust has taken me to several awesome places this year such as Bohol and Panglao Island, Paguriran Island in Sorsogon, CWC in Camarines Sur, and Bulan/Sta. Magdalena in Sorsogon.
It was in mid-April when some of my friends and I planned to visit the Philippines’ top beach destination, Boracay Island. With airfare made more affordable by Asian Spirit’s promo that time, it seemed like nothing could stop us from our Boracay escapade.
However, two disastrous events threatened to cancel our trip: Typhoon Frank and the shutdown of our office. Honestly, after those series of events I almost lost the desire to see and experience Boracay. Who can enjoy the tropical getaway when a typhoon has just passed over our destination and at home, almost all my friends lost their jobs?
Still, despite heavy hearts we decided to push through with the trip because we can’t just waste our plane tickets. We still wanted to see Boracay, even though news reports said it had been damaged heavily by the typhoon. I also needed time to clear my mind of the harrowing experience we had at work that week, even for just a few days.
I’m glad we did push through with the trip. Boracay is everything I imagined a tropical island destination to be. Yes, the typhoon did cause some damage but it was mostly on the Bulabog side of the island. White Beach was still breathtakingly spectacular. For a beach lover like me, Boracay is indeed the ultimate beach. The sand was so fine and soft you have to experience it to believe it.
And because the typhoon probably scared off many tourists, we had the wide expanse of powdery white sand and crystal clear water all to ourselves.
On day one of our Boracay trip, we explored White Beach, had lunch at D’Mall, and had fun swimming around Willy’s rock, which was just a few meters away from Watercolors, the resort we stayed in at Station 1.
Here are some more snapshots from day one of our Boracay Getaway:
